UTILITIES

In this page you will find tools I have found useful to develop content for Morrowind

Home of the almighty NIF IMPORTER for 3D Studio Max (now tested to work in 3dsmax 5)

Installation instructions: Just drop this file in the 3dsmax/Plugins directory. Due to the alpha nature of this plugin, some objects will import partially or not at all, and others (including transparency, animation, particles, etc.) will crash 3dsmax to the desktop. Uninstall (delete) after importing all the meshes you need to restore 3dsmax stability. This warning also applies to 3dsmax version 5.

Dongle's excellent tutorial on how to use the NIF Importer. Read it to learn how to use it. I will ignore any e-mail asking for any question covered in this tutorial. Read it first

3D Studio Max .dds file plugin and Photoshop .dds file plugin. Download from nVidia's web site. Just follow the instructions given in the site. This plugin also works with Paint Shop Pro, as reported by random name.

If you can't afford either program, it is reported that the plugin also works with Adobe Photoshop Elements, which can be found under $99

For everyone who finds nVidias page too confusing: here is a file with all of their utilities. Download and install everything. DLLs go into your Windows/System folder.

For everyone who is looking for the old NetImmerse official viewer. Here is the link for the MaxImmerse and NetImmerse viewers . MaxImmerse is for 3dsMax users only. If you don't have it, don't install it. The MaxImmerse viewer is for everyone. Don't use the MaxImmerse plug to export to Morrowind. This format is old and Morrowind will complain about it and will not load the model (it may CTD). Use the Freedom Force exporter instead. If you install the Freedom Force Exporter after MaxImmerse, 3dsMax will default to FF and disable MaxImmerse exporter, just ignore the warnings when Max is loading (duplicate plugin- NIF)

Download the Freedom Force exporter

Very useful for video animated textures, sequences, other special effects that TES shader doesn't support. Also, if you don't want your work to be edited as you can include the textures in the NIF.

Other utilities of great value. Credit goes to their creators, their text files included in the zip unchanged.

T.E.S.A.M.E. - Use it to clean up your plugins. Alas, no tutorial to use this. It is confusing if you have a lot of modifications and don't know what to look for.

Looking for tutorial on this program.

Morrowind SKINNER - Use it to change textures of existing Morrowind objects.
